Let’s play: What City Is This? (roadtrip version)

Nomad.

Him: I live in Williamsburg. It’s great, you —

Me: I WANT TO LIVE THERE! I love Brooklyn.

Later

Him: I’ll definitely end up in LA. I’m not sure when but —

Me: I WANT TO LIVE THERE!

Later

Him: Actually, a lot of my friends are moving out of LA. One of my friends is moving to Nashville —

Me: I WANT TO LIVE THERE!

Later

Him: Nashville is definitely perfect for music. Although I hear Austin —

Me: Austin! Yes! I WANT TO LIVE THERE! (Awkward silence.) No, really.. That’s my exact list.. New York, LA, Nashville, Austin.

Some Awesome Advice:

I WOULD HIGHLY NOT RECOMMEND taking yourself out on a date to see a play but only deciding to do this about 53 minutes before the play begins while currently in LA where google maps is totally joking when they say it will take you 14 minutes (and in tiny print, 4 hours and 18 minutes in traffic). It will not take you 14 minutes and you will be slightly panicked and wondering if maybe you should have just holed up in your hotel room like your tired body had tried to convince you to:

Body: “Come on, Kerry. We’re exhausted. We had a great, long day. Let’s just find the hot tub and call it quits.”

Me: “But we’re in LA! We LOVE LA! We can be tired when we get back to the east coast! Hurrah!”

I would also not recommend not finding out how long the show is ahead of time and slowly dozing off as Ben McKenzie (of the brilliant theatrical piece, The OC) drones on about something in the candle (only) lit set as the show rounds hour number three.

And I would REALLY not recommend not exactly remembering where you parked in the massive parking structure and wandering around by yourself with your cell phone that is pretty much dead, hoping you aren’t kidnapped.

Lastly, don’t assume that after a week in LA you can definitely get home from a part that you haven’t spent any time in at all and in your overly confident state of mind decide to not google map it and then have to freak out and try to google it on your now basically not working phone which you keep dropping by your feet and having to search around with your hands while still trying to drive and going through scary tunnels where homeless people are straight up laying in the road.

I WOULD VERY MUCH HIGHLY RECOMMEND having adventures, scaring yourself, exploring places you’ve never been, doing way too many things alone and learning how to figure out whatever you need to figure out in the moment with or without the assistance of google.
