‘like being a woman, like being racial, religious, tribal or ethnic minority, being LGBT does not make you less human. and that is what gay rights are human rights and human rights are gay rights’- hillary clinton

True Story: I just got so excited when I saw the purple background being featured on Tumblr right now!
Wear PURPLE today (October 20th) in support of LGBT youth and all of those who have suffered bullying due to their sexual orientation.
If you don’t have any purple in your wardrobe (which I’m willing to believe some people honestly don’t although I can’t imagine why) may I suggest drawing a purple heart on your hand? Adding a purple ribbon into your hair? Carrying a purple bag? Getting some super sexy purple eyeshadow going? These kids don’t make any excuses for who they truly are, let’s not make any excuses as to why we can’t support. I know lots of LGBT community members will absolutely participate but it’s super important to have straight folks show their support even more to encourage other straight people to realize we are all in this together.

PSA of the Day: Reformed gay basher adds alternative voice to Trevor Project x Dan Savage’s “It Gets Better” Project by telling high school bullies “it gets worse.”

This totally struck a nerve as I grew up in a town full of these kids. I’m not sure if they’re still so ignorant and small minded because I’m not friends with them anymore. The last actual conversation I had with one included his telling me that the Bible says it’s wrong to be gay. Before I could list all of the things that he partakes in that the Bible would never condone or the fact that he didn’t even go to church or mention the various references to homosexuality in the Bible, I got up and left. Time to grow up, kids. Spread peace.

I joined this group today. I’m not sure yet what the next step is but it always feels good to do something. With a very large percentage of my friends, colleagues and peers being LGBT, I’m well aware that humans are humans and love is love regardless of your sexual identity. Hate crimes based on who that human chooses to love is not now nor has ever been acceptable.

The other day on the subway, I heard a young girl around 14 refer to someone as being “so gay” and then quickly corrected herself out loud by saying, with sincerity, “Wait, I shouldn’t use that word. I meant to say he is a homosexual.” I felt so happy to hear a young, city kid know that calling people, things or situations “gay” is not only wrong but outdated. Judging by the conversation she and her friends were having, she clearly identifies as being straight and that’s the best part. LGBT awareness is just as if not more important for straight people.

She cares. I care. How about you? Do you give a damn
