Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
Me: The sign-in is right there, on the chair.
She: Oh, thanks! Didn’t see it.
Me: No worries.
She: Did they give you sides? In the room?
Me: Oh, no, it’s just the ones they emailed out. Nothing new in the room.
She: Oh. They emailed sides? [picks up phone and starts scrolling through email] I totally didn’t even look.
Me: Don’t worry, it’s really easy, like two pages.
She: [laughs] I, like, always do this!
Check your email, fellow actors. Look for attachments. Especially when the email includes things like “sides are attached” or “see attachments” or “we sent you the sides in both pdf and word format”. Being a smart actor leads to being a working actor. Plus, she had no idea who I was - I came out of the room when she came in and could have easily been the assistant, the intern or the casting director’s daughter.
On a positive note? She had the cutest boots on.
Me: “why is half our class missing?”
Him: “probably because it’s Passover.”
Me: “right but Passover is on Monday.”
Him: “it is Monday.”
Me: “oh man I can’t believe I missed Passover!”
Him: “are you Jewish?”
Me: “uh.. no? Right, no. Well.. no, not really.”
Him: “oh so you’re half?”
Me: “no, I just get confused sometimes and think I’m Jewish.”
Him: “okay…”
Me: “I mean I’m Catholic but I’m professionally Jewish.”
Him: “you’re professionally Jewish? Okay..”
Me: “are you Jewish? Oh no wait, you’re from Canada!”
Him: “yes but Canadian people can be Jewish.”
Me: “right but in my mind you’re Midwestern so that cancels the Canadian thing.”
Him: “so I’m Midwestern and you’re professionally Jewish?”
Me: “exactly!”
I’m pretty sure I made a new friend tonight. Happy Passover to those who celebrate.
